I managed to get a pumpkin before Hallowe'en, but didn't get to carve it until tonight. And here is the beauty that is Joey carved on a pumpkin. You should reconize the design. I'm really proud of this, I don't care what people say. It's completely awesome to me. For it is the most beautifully carved pumpkin I have ever made. It took about 3 hours all together, which is sadly a much shorter amount of time it takes for me to make a regular drawing. That doesn't take away from it's awesomeness.
How I made it: I printed out a copy of the original sketch I used for my Sitting Joey piece, then did the whole get-all-the-seeds-and-squishie-junk-out-of-the-pumpkin thing. Then I taped said sketch onto said pumpkin. Then I poked tiny holes along the outline, a technique I learned from those how-to-make-kool-pumpkins kits. After that was done and my hand hurt, I carved away until you have the coolness that it my pumpkin. The weirdness on her ears and part of her eyes was something I saw done on a pumpkin while I did my crappy trick-or-treating this year. And that was how it was done.
I didn't know if I should have categorized this as photography or not, and I ended up picking indy art because it's more a picture of a work of art rather then a picture of some random object. Don't eat me. Eat some pumpkin pie instead.
This is great. This is excellent, the way you made real art using something you learned from a “how-to-make-kool-pumpkins kit.” I love your character, he's cute and stylish, but he's eerily spooky in this context. Sweet!
